Facebook today announced Portal, a device designed for communication. Vision FacebookThe goal is for Portal to become a device that connects family and friends through video.chat. Two versions have been announced, the first is a 10-inch version called Portal, the second is a 15-inch version called Portal+. Both devices can be used in both landscape and portrait orientations. Both devices include a form of artificial intelligence in the form of Alexa, a smart camera, and sound.

The smart camera takes care of focusing on your person all the time. So if you start moving around the room in different ways, the smart camera will still follow you. He will turn around behind you and bring you closer so that the other party can see you at all times. Smart audio then ensures that the other party is not disturbed by noise or other disturbing elements.

To use the Portal, you need Facebook Messenger, but you can communicate with your friends through it, even if the other party does not own Portal. Portal will support group calls for up to 7 people. Since Portal has a voice assistant Alexa, just say "Hey Portal" and then use your voice to choose who you want to call. You can also easily ask Portal about things like the weather, news, traffic, and more.

Together with Portal, you can also enjoy music to the fullest, thanks to Spotify Premium, Pandora and other services. The sound from the Portal should be of really good quality, as the smaller version contains two speakers and the Portal+ has four speakers and a 4″ bass speaker. The smaller version will cost $199, the larger Portal+ then $349.
