Last Thursday, a lawsuit filed by Social Tech in a Northern California district court alleges Apple for stealing the Memoji name. The theft scenario is very similar to those we know from similar cases. Apple tried to quietly buy the trademark for Memoji, but he failed. Despite the failure, he decided to introduce his new product under this name, thereby damaging the company that owned the trademark for Memoji. The company de facto lost control over its brand, since the world only knows the product under the name Memoji Applu, not hers.

The goal of the affected company is clear - to limit Apple in the use of the name Memoji, to obtain from him a hefty compensation for damages including court and legal fees and, last but not least, to receive at least part of the profits which Apple achieved precisely because of the use of the name Memoji. But only time will tell whether at least one of these things will be achieved.
