Intel tooneAfter much speculation, Intel has officially introduced new processor models. These are the eighth generation of the U and Y series, which were previously called Whiskey Lake and Amber Lake. According to Intel, both are designed for thin and light laptops and are supposed to offer high performance along with long battery life.

The processors from the U series are specifically the i7-8565U (quad-core with 1.8GHZ and up to 4.6GHz with Turbo boost), the i5-8265U (quad-core with 1.6GHz and up to 3.9GHz with Turbo boost) and the dual-core i3-8145U, which will offer 2GHZ with Turbo boost up to 3.9GHz. All three will offer up to 2x faster performance and built-in support for voice assistants Alexa and Cortana. Intel's information sounds very interesting, that the processors should offer a battery life of up to 16 hours, and even 19 hours when set for longer life.

The Y series is not that interesting anymore. Specifically, the processors are i7-8500, i5-8200Y and m3-8100Y, while the first two are dual-core and offer 1.5GHz and 1.3GHz respectively. m3-8100Y will offer a performance of 1.1GHz with Turbo up to 3.4GHz. For this series, Intel did not reveal any specific specifications regarding the increased battery life, but we should wait.

Practically immediately after the presentation, speculation began, of course, about whether we will see these processors in the new MacBooks, which should arrive by the end of this year. Considering the characteristics of the processors, we would not be surprised. Of course, no one knows at the moment whether the U or Y series will appear in them.
