How to set a GIF as a screen saver

At the heart of this tip is a third-party app called AnimatedGIF. So first you need to download AnimatedGIF app from this link. After downloading, the application is of course necessary install – if your Mac tells you that it is an application from an unidentified developer, go to System Preferences -> Privacy Security -> and click on at the bottom of the window Still open. You can then choose whether you want to install AnimatedGIF only for myself, or for all users. Now all you have to do is go to the section Desktop and saver, where in the top menu we switch to Screen saver and select an option from the left menu AnimatedGIF. Now we click on the option Screen saver options.

Now you have a myriad of options to choose from – whether you want to stretch or center the GIF, you can choose the number of frames per second, loading animation, change the background color and more. But we are interested in this case text box at the very bottom and button Select File or Directory. Use the button to point the saver where the finds your GIF file. Which GIF file you choose is entirely up to you. You can use some websites to download GIFs, for example giphy.com. Confirm the selection with the button OK and it is done.

Just make sure you have a screen saver active - in the Screen Saver section, look in the bottom left corner for the Run After option. Here, choose a time delay after which the saver will start automatically and make sure you don't set it to Never.
