In today's test, we will look at the hot new product from JBL - wireless speaker JBL Tuner. As the name suggests, in addition to the usual functions, the novelty also has the possibility of receiving radio waves. That is, a function that doesn't appear much these days. Let's take a look at how they fare and how they differ from their sibling products that JBL has on offer.
Official specification
As always, we'll start by looking at the official specifications. In the case of the JBL Tuner speaker, the music production is handled by a drive44,5 mm in size, which has a frequency range of 85 Hz - 20 kHz and maximal performanceonem 5 W. The power supply and the declared 8 hours of battery life (depending on the method of use) are then provided by an integrated battery with a capacity of 2000 mAh with a charging time of about three and a half hours. For the needs of receiving radio signals, we have both a classic FM tuner with frequency reception in the range of 87,5 - 108 MHz and RDS support, and a DAB tuner for frequencies 174,928 - 239,200 MHz. Of course, the presence of Bluetooth 4.1. The speaker weighs less than half a kilogram and is available exclusively in black and white.
Execution
At first glance, the JBL Tuner resembles other speakers from this manufacturer's range, especially the model Flip 4 (review here) or Charge 3 (review here). In shape, it is a kind of elongated cuboid with rounded edges. The front and top sides are covered with perforated plastic "networking", through which the sound passes from the speaker. The bottom and back sides are then covered with rubberized plastic, which can also be found on both sides. The front side is dominated by the orange manufacturer's logo and also a small LED display that displays a lot of useful information. On the top side we also find a control panel and above it a pull-out antenna. On the back side there is a recess with a microUSB toonewhich for charging and audio output. As for the quality of workmanship, there is nothing to complain about. The parts fit well, nothing creaks anywhere, the buttons work well and the speaker feels robust, although it is not certified from the factory for increased resistance to falls/dust/water.
Control
As for the controls, there is nothing new in the regular Bluetooth speaker mode. Pairing works here like everywhere else. For the needs of playing the radio, we have a few extra buttons. The first of them determines in which mode we want the radio to beiostune in, whether via classic FM frequencies or via digital broadcasting. The secondary button allows scanning of available frequencies and the other two perform the function of switching individual stations/precise tuning according to frequencies. On the top of the control panel, we find five buttons for saving individual stations so that you have your favorite stations immediately available. The Bluetooth pairing button does not need to be described at all, and the volume control buttons in Bluetooth mode also serve to switch songs - exactly as we are used to from EarPods or other speakers/headphones. All manipulation is subsequently accompanied by information on the display, which shows both the currently tuned frequency and RDS information, battery charge status, information about pairing via Bluetooth, etc.
How does the JBL Tuner play?
JBL claims that the Tuner has a clean and powerful sound. One could agree with the first part of this statement. The sound that the tiny driver reproduces, it is really surprisingly clean. With maxIt's not that great in terms of maximum volume and overall sound density, but for personal needs (or when you need to sound a regular room or nearby area), it's sufficient in my opinion. If you're planning on hosting a larger party for a few dozen people, look elsewhere.
Otherwise, the sound is very pleasant, compared to other products it is not so bass-heavy and individual musical notes stand out when listening.ance. Given the technical specifications, one must be aware of the speaker's limits, but I personally think that the sound performance of this model will not offend anyone.
záver
The JBL Tuner speaker really surprised me in terms of sound, as it has really clear sound and performance.onem, which is quite sufficient for personal listening. Yes, if you need to sound larger spaces or drown out a group of people partying, you will reach the limit given by the design and design. For these needs, models with more driveand higher performanceonem. However, for personal listening, the Tuner is completely sufficient. If the function of receiving radio stations is useful to you, you will definitely not go wrong with this option. Nowadays, one would like to say, what is the point of a radio when the Internet is available almost everywhere (and therefore hundreds of radio stations that broadcast via it). However, data network coverage is not always 100% and using it for receiving radio waves is definitely suitable, for many different reasons.
