Computers from Applu were not previously only labeled Mac or MacBook, but also, for example, the PowerBook. This series of notebooks was produced between 1991 and 2006, and its latest versions were already strikingly similar to later ones. MacBookthat replaced them. In 1993, specifically on August 16, exactly 25 years ago, Apple released the PowerBook 165. And what made this laptop interesting? It was the cheapest laptop of this Cupertino company.

The PowerBook 165 was cheaper varianta model with the designation 165c, which was the first notebook from Applu with a color display. However, it was not a high-quality 8.4-inch screen. Its colors were dull and visible only from the right angle. Therefore, Apple decided to offer a cheaper variant, which lacked a color monitor, but offered an improved processor speed from 25MHz to 33MHz. RAM could be expanded from 4MB to 14MB, and the hard drive offered a size of 80 or 160GB.

PowerBook 165:

It can thus be said that the PowerBook 165 was a kind of compromise between the older 160 model and the more modern 165c. However, in terms of price, it won by a wide margin, because it cost "only" $1.970. Compared to $2.480 for the PowerBook 160 and a dizzying $3.870 for the 165c, it was a really great price. For comparison, we can mention $4.079, which was the price of the PoweBook 180c, which later that year offered the first really high-quality color display.

The PowerBook 165 is certainly not considered one of the iconic devices these days. Applu, mainly because of the prices of laptops at the time. Even though this model was the cheapest device on offer, not everyone could afford it. Taking into account inflation since 1993, this PowerBook would cost an incredible $3.337 today, or roughly CZK 70.000.
