We all take screenshots from time to time. Most of the time, we take screenshots primarily on our iPhonech, but even on a Mac it is sometimes unavoidable. Taking a screenshot in macOS is very easy. If you want to take a screenshot of the entire screen, just press the keyboard shortcut Command + Shift + 3. In case you want to make a screenshot or if you want to create a screenshot from a specific application, choose the keyboard shortcut Command + Shift + 4. However, in today's tutorial, we will not focus on creating screenshots.

As the screenshots are saved immediately after pressing the shortcut key in the case of the macOS operating system, some of you might not like that they are saved to the desktop by default. Fortunately, even this can be changed with a simple trick. If you are interested in how to do it, be sure to read the next paragraphs of this article. In the end, we will also show how to make a screenshot so that it remains only in the clipboard and is not stored anywhere - as the competitor has Windows.

How to change the location where screenshots are saved

As I mentioned in the beginning, by default, screenshots are saved to the desktop. If you would like them to be stored elsewhere, for example in a specific folder, proceed as follows:

Let's open up Terminal (either in Launchpadu in the Other folder or by using Spotlight and typing "Terminal"). Once Terminal appears, copy the following command:

defaults write com.apple.screencapture location ~/Desktop/Screenshoty

In the order you of course change the path depending on where exactly you want to save the screenshots. You can choose, for example, a folder in documents or anything else, it just depends on your preferences. Then confirm the command by pressing the button enter. To complete this procedure, we will copy this one more command:

killall SystemUIServer

And again confirm the command with the key enter. Now it's just a matter of making sure everything works - so take a few screenshots and see if they save where they should.

If you would like to start saving screenshots to the desktop again, follow the same procedure as above. But just copy this one command:

defaults write com.apple.screencapture location ~/Desktop

How to save screenshot to clipboard?

In the beginning, I mentioned that saving screenshots works differently in macOS than in competitors Windowseh. In case you ever want to make a screenshot so that it is not saved immediately, but only copied to the clipboard, so that you can easily send it to anyone quickly, then proceed as follows:

We press the keyboard shortcut Command + Shift + 4. The Mac will go into "screenshot mode". Now press and hold the key Control and drag the mouse along the screen and mark the area you want to take a picture of. Then you can Control let go. In this case, the screenshot was not saved in the predefined folder, but is located in the mailbox. Now all you have to do is go to, for example, Facebook or anywhere else and pressed the keyboard shortcut Command + V. The screenshot will be inserted into the text field and you can send it immediately.

I hope you learned something new from this tutorial. I don't think many people know these tricks - but you are one of them, so you can safely say that you know how to use screenshots in macOS. maximum.
