When the company Apple released its operating system iOS 10, introduced the CallKit framework. This was an improvement that allowed users to use specialized applications in their iOS devices to automatically detect and block unwanted calls before the device even rings. In the upcoming iOS 12 wants Apple improve this system even more.

Apple has allowed developers to program a completely new type of call blocking extension. When on an iPhone with the operating system iOS 10 or iOS 11 you receive an incoming call, the operating system first performs a kind of “consultation” with the native Contacts application. This is done in an attempt to find a matching phone number. If a match is not found, the system compares the caller’s phone number with the phone numbers in your CallKit applications, such as Skype. If there is a match, the software will show you on the display of your iOS device a label selected by the relevant application – for example, Telemarketing or Harassing. The display of this label is currently common in relevant applications (for example, in the Czech Republic, “Zvednout to?”), in iOS 12 wants but Apple go even further - if the call is identified as spam, it will be automatically blocked by the system.

It is speculated that to this significant improvement Apple stepped up to comply with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. In India, the problem with spam – especially unsolicited text messages – has been so great that there has even been a proposal for a government app to report it. Company Apple she disagreed with the proposal because she didn't like a government organization having full access to call and message logs.

After downloading the blocking application from App Storu, which has the Unwanted Communication extension, the user must manually activate the extension in Settings -> Phone -> Call Blocking and Identification, where they allow the application to be used. What data does the extension collect? For SMS messages, this includes the full text, content, and information about the sender. For phone calls, this includes data such as the caller's phone number or the time of the call. You can access blocked messages or numbers via Settings -> Messages -> Blocked. Blocking does not work for messages of the type iMessageOnce you reply to a text message three times or save the sender to Contacts, the messages will no longer go through the verification filter.
