If you want yours iOS To personalize your device, the first and arguably most important step you can take to personalize it is to change the wallpaper. If your iOS If you decide to change your wallpaper on your device, you can choose one for the lock screen and another for the classic wallpaper that appears when you unlock it. Personally, I prefer to keep both wallpapers the same - both for simplicity and because of the dark gradient that appears every time you unlock your device if you have two different wallpapers. So if you want to create your own wallpapers on iPhone, check out some tips below.

Wallpaper size

The very first thing you need to pay attention to when creating wallpapers is their size. Every iPhone has its own display resolution, so you should choose the optimal size. So if you are going to use Photoshop or another professional program to create your wallpaper, take a look at the wallpaper sizes below. Also, keep in mind that you may hold your iPad in landscape mode more often, so you should create your wallpaper in landscape mode. Wallpapers in the operating system iOS does not adjust in any way depending on the screen orientation.

iPhone

  • iPhone SE : 1136 x 640 px; 16:9
  • iPhone 6s/7/8 : 1334 x 750 px; 16:9
  • iPhone 6s Plus/7 Plus/8 Plus: 1920 x 1080px; 16:9
  • iPhone X : 2436 x 1125 px; 16:9

iPad

  • iPad mini (all models): 2048 x 1536 px; 4:3
  • iPad (9.7in) : 2048 x 1536 px; 4:3
  • iPad Pro (10.5in) : 2224 x 1668 px; 4:3
  • iPad Pro (12.9in) : 2732 x 2048 px; 4:3

This simple "pull tree" should help you create wallpapers for any Apple device. But if you don't want to reach for professional programs, let's look at one more simple way with which you can easily create a "custom" wallpaper right on your Apple device.

Create wallpaper directly in iOS

You will use this procedure especially if, for example, you have a photo taken in landscape, but you would like to set a part of it as wallpaper - i.e. that, for example, you zoom in on the wallpaper slightly and set the left part of it as wallpaper. In this case, you just need to go to the native application Fotkythey opened a photo, part of which you will want to use as wallpaper. Then zoom in and move it so that the resulting photo that appears on the display matches what you want on the wallpaper. Then simply create screenshot (screen shot). If you are not sure how to take a screenshot on your iPhone, see below.

How to take a screenshot?

  • iPhone 8 and older: hold down the power button and press the home button at the same time - then release both buttons
  • iPhone X: hold the side button and press the volume up button at the same time - then release both buttons

After you take a screenshot, hover over it in the Photos app. IN lower left corner click the button sharing (square with arrow) and select an option in the bottom menu Use as wallpaper. Then simply press the button Set uplower right corner. As it has a screenshot exact size, you don't have to move the image or zoom in on it – iPhone or iPad won't even let you do that. After pressing the Set button, you just have to choose whether you want to set the wallpaper to the lock screen, to the desktop and or for both.

Of course, there are also various applications for creating or downloading wallpapers. But mostly they are paid, and when they are not, they are full of ads and the images from these apps are not always of the quality that you might want. That is why I personally choose wallpapers that I have personally photographed or I find an image on the Internet that is of sufficient quality.
