For Ed Sclater, the co-founder of the California startup Naked Labs, stepping on the scale is not just an old, necessary, and often depressing bathroom ritual. Sclater also sees weighing as a potentially harmful approach to health and fitness. That is why his company decided to invent a revolutionary alternative to weighing.
"When you stand on a traditional scale, you get a single number - your weight," explains Sclater. “But the problem is that when you exercise, you're losing fat and gaining muscle, but the scale can tell you how many times you've made zero progress. If you're trying to improve your form, this kind of information can be absolutely devastating for you," he adds.
Sclater and his team have been developing a futuristic mirror at Naked Labs for many years, which is capable of providing its owner with detailed information about his health. The data that the mirror will be able to communicate should include not only weight, but also body mass index and body measurements (circumference of the left bicep, leg length, etc.). The mirror from Naked Labs is actually a kind of 3D body scanner, which should become the direct opposite of a dusty scale hidden under the toilet.
To use the mirror, the user steps on the scale that is part of the mirror and then rotates in front of the mirror. Within a few minutes, the mirror will send the necessary information to the person via a special application on their smartphone. In addition to data on body fat percentage and other records, an animated prototype of the user's body will also appear on the phone's display.
Founder Fund partner Cyan Banister, among others, invested in Naked Labs' revolutionary product. "I personally invested in it," he told Business Insider. "It's a very futuristic product. For people who have never had access to anything like this before, it's like magic," he added. Banister believes the Naked Labs mirror has the potential to not only transform the fitness industry, but also inspire social media focused on the area.
This isn't the only product from Naked Labs that looks like it's straight out of a sci-fi movie. The company plans a number of products that can be used in business, automation or even medicine. One of the projects is a special virtual world in which the user creates an exact copy of himself - an avatar - with the help of which he will buy clothes.
Preliminary price mirrors from Naked Labs is roughly 30 crowns, which makes it a very luxurious accessory. However, the team working on the mirror, according to their own words, is trying to make itoneThe actual price of the mirror was lower.
