Apple during its existence it has developed a number of remarkable products that have been written in golden letters in its history or in the history of technology in general. One of them is undoubtedly the Newton MessagePad, which can be called with a clear conscience a kind of predecessor of today's iPhones. And it is this legendary product that I put on myself Apple drew considerable attention in the 25s, today is his 2th birthday. Precisely on August 1993, XNUMX, Newton enjoyed his debut on store shelves. How about making his birthday today a little more pleasant with a few lines about his "life"?

If there's one thing that can be said about Newton, it's that he was probably the most unfairly maligned product in history. Applu. From its very beginning, it had a very good chance of becoming a phenomenon in the world. Steve Jobs But after returning to the company, he saw it differently and killed it without mercy. But we are already getting ahead of that in this story. The beginning of this product dates back a few years earlier.

The father of Newton was engineer Steve Sakoman, who started working on its prototype back in 1987. Even then, he wanted to give this product functions that were almost unheard of at the time. For example, can you imagine that in the late eighties, this engineer wanted to enable Newton to communicate with its surroundings using an infrared port, or wanted to teach it to recognize handwriting? Although it may have sounded like wishful thinking at the time, Newton actually turned many of these dreams into reality. However, his father did not work on it anymore. Sakoman left the company in 1990. However, in 1991, the then-chief executive noticed the project in progress. AppJohn Sculley, who subsequently ordered its completion. That is why Newton is often referred to as Sculley's Macintosh, as he wanted to use it as a symbolic answer to another legendary product Applu – Jobs' Mac.

Sculley's Mac

Sculley wanted to create a personal digital assistant from Newton, which would help people in their daily lives. And, surprisingly, people actually listened to him. Despite many imperfections, it enjoyed considerable popularity, despite the fact that during its development, engineers faced significant problems and internal disagreements within the team, due to which its sales launch was constantly postponed. This product first saw the light of day at the end of May 1992. AppIt took more than a year for it to hit store shelves.

Thanks to the popularity of this product, he worked Apple in the following years on new generations, on which he gradually improved all the imperfections that plagued the previous versions. Even an almost perfect product (that is, at least for the time), however, did not survive the return of Jobs. It's a shame, because Newton was undeniably timeless, which probably no one appreciated at the time. The final nail in the coffin of this product was the arrival of the iPhone, which clearly indicated that the era of Newton-type toys was already dead.
