The autopilot function in the case of Tesla vehicles is often praised, but on the contrary, it is also criticized. After the recent case in which the autopilot developed by Elon Musk's company killed a person, this function earned the status of an unreliable assistant for some people. A Model X owner whose life was saved by the vehicle's Autopilot would disagree.

An incident in which Autopilot anticipated the situation and avoided an accident with a truck occurred in North Carolina. Tesla Model X driver Jeremy Visnesky posted a video of the truck driver nearly causing a side collision on his YouTube channel. According to the video from the dashboard of the electric car, the driver of the truck with the trailer got too close to the vehicle and momentarily lost control. When crossing the track, Model X's autopilot responded with anticipation. As soon as the truck approached the right lane, the steering assistant pulled the vehicle toward the shoulder, then resumed its route after the danger had passed.
In the description of the video, the owner of the vehicle states that if the autopilot had not reacted as it did, the truck would definitely have hit him. According to him, the truck driver did not concentrate on the road, because it is impossible for someone to panic like that on a straight road. Model X therefore appears to be a lifesaver in this situationancand, similar to last month's incident.
The second mentioned incident took place in Switzerland. It concerned a Model S, whose autopilot responded in time and saved the vehicle's owner from an almost certain head-on collision. During this particular incident, the Model S was traveling at 50 mph when it detected a Ford Kuga dangerously overtaking a tractor. To make matters worse, there was another vehicle behind the Ford (Volkswagen Beetle), whose owner also decided to overtake the mentioned tractor. Thanks to the Model S's warnings, the driver was able to react appropriately and avoid what could have been a catastrophic collision.
