Steve Jobs exactly 28 years ago, on April 25, 1990, Pixar's hardware division was shut down, and the production of the expensive Pixar Image Computers was immediately discontinued. The co-founder of the Cupertino company, after an unsuccessful attempt to sell computers, sold the hardware division to Vicom System for $2 million.

Pixar worked on film episodes produced by Lucasfilm, and after several years of research, it bought the group with 1986 employees in 45.anci Steve Jobswho had recently left the Applu. Jobs bought a majority stake in the animation studio from Star Wars creator George Lucas for $5 million and gave him another $5 million in equity in the company.

The dream of Pixar's founders was to create full-length animated films. But Jobs thought that the company could also make and sell computers to somehow pay for the journey to the dream goal.

Lucas led the company during the development of the Pixar Image Computer. The filmmaker found that existing computers were too weak to handle the graphics needed to produce Pixar's work and meet the demands of Hollywood studios.

Pixar initially focused on producing high-performance computer hardware, most notably the Pixar Image Computer, which was of interest to government organizations and the medical community. However, the device was also purchased by Disney. Studios, which used it to implement the secret CAPS project.

The Pixar Image Computer cost $135, which was a lot. However, Pixar released a second generation computer called the P-II in 000 with a significantly lower price tag of $1987. There wasn't much interest in the computers, with fewer than 35 units sold by April 000.

Jobs sold Pixar's hardware division to Vicom Systems in 1990. The company soon moved from San Rafael to Richmond, California. Although a year later Pixar created a StudioWith three animated features (the first of which was Toy Story), for which he received about $26 million, he was still losing money. However, once Toy Story hit theaters in 1995, worldwide sales climbed to $350 million, sending Pixar's stock price to $22.
