In August 2016, the European Union ordered Ireland to start collecting back taxes from Applu, totaling $15 billion. Ireland granted the Cupertino company unauthorized tax benefits amounting to the amount between 2003 and 2014, allowing the technology giant to pay significantly lower taxes than other companies for many years. Ireland and Apple they reject the verdict and appeal to the court to decide.

Last year, Ireland was fined for failing to collect taxes back from Applu. The payment plan was published in January and payments will start accumulating in the account from May, with the full amount expected to be in the account in September.
