With the arrival iOS 11, compatible iPhones and iPads have learned to take photos in the new HEIF format. Its main advantage is storage savings, as a photo with the same resolution and quality is several times smaller in volume than the same photo in JPEG format. On the other hand, the disadvantage of HEIF is currently its low compatibility with various programs and services. Especially computer users with Windows they may have problems editing images in HEIF. However, support for the new format is starting to take off and in the case of the system Windows Czech developers claim the lead with their program Zoner Photo Studio X, which is the first to bring HEIF support to the operating system from the Redmond giant.
Zoner Photo Studio X from the stable of the Brno company ZONER software is the first in the world to offer a solution for reading and writing this format on the platform Windows. It is currently a trial version, so it is necessary to activate the support in the program v Options -> Advanced and also ideally have saved copies of images in a different format.
“Our lead in supporting HEIF is a win-win for many users iPhone one of the few options to work with your photos from the latest iPhones on the platform Windows. Pro "However, it means much more to us. We have been waiting for a successor to the old JPG format for a long time, not only because of the aforementioned size savings while maintaining quality, but also because of other modern features such as: storing multiple images using the difference method, combining video and photos, using a depth map, or even reducing editing requirements. The new HEIF format will simply enable really big things in the future," zooms in Jan Merchant.

How many more years does it confirm before Decree No. 194/2009 Coll. on establishing the details of the use and operation of the information system of data boxes in the Czech Republic with a list of permitted formats of data report attachments supplemented by this relatively new format? It's funny that in 2017 DS accepts MPEG1 and MPEG2 and not H.264 or even H.265.
A bit confusing, they just use the API. Therefore on Windowse even Photoshop doesn't work and it does on MAC OS X because the API in Mac OS X is available. More info: https://www.digimanie.cz/heif-format-proc-jej-zadny-windows-software-neumi/7106
If they made this app for mac as well, then it would be a blast ;-)
I've been using XnView for some time now and it can also play x.265 videos... so it won't be so hot with their superiority
Every year when there is a new version of Zoneru so I write to them when it will be available for OSX and the answer is still the same, should I get widle for Mac?
If you absolutely need to work with a cat and dog – i.e. cataloging software that has some editing functions (and doesn't do either very well), use ACDSee – Zoner is the defacto copy. But for more serious work I would go with ZoneHe dodged the arrow.
