It's been about three months since a hot new product from Appl – 13″ MacBook Pro with Touch Bar. Since then it has been in daily use and works as a (so far) reliable daily driver, who has to deal with everything he is confronted with. This text will reflect on what the last three months in the company of the new MacBookwere. The format will not be a classic review, as there is not enough data and information for it (especially when it comes to hardware-intensive tests, i.e. music/video editing, demanding photo editing, etc.). So it will be more of a kind of "second impressions", which will be divided into several thematic chapters. So let's get to it.

Display

The first thing you'll notice about your new Mac is the display. It's a 13-inch IPS panel with a resolution of 2 x 560 pixels, 1 ppi, P600 gamut support, and 270 nits of brightness. Many of you will be familiar with the new MacBooky have already seen many times in stores and so you know that the display in particular is great on the new Macs. The wide range of brightness settings is excellent and allows you to adjust the brightness both when working at night and when viewing the monitor in direct sunlight. The fineness of the display and color reproduction is unmatched. This resolution on a 13″ panel looks absolutely great. The user interface is (unlike Windows) can advise with a higher resolution and work in the system is thus problem-free. In this case it is necessary Apple praise, because they managed to select and calibrate the panels very well. It has no flaws when watching movies, editing photos or generally consuming content. The only area where it could come up short is competitive gaming of various FPS. Here, a higher response time could be the limit (it is still a "regular" IPS panel), but if you are into competitive gaming, MacBook Pro You probably don't have it in the viewfinder. So the display is behind 1.

Keyboard

If the display is the first thing, what's the point in the new MacBookIf you come across one, the keyboard is probably in second place. And the words of praise from the first paragraph will continue here. The second generation of this keyboard (the first is in the 12″ MacBooku) is absolutely phenomenal. Personally, I'm used to a mechanical keyboard, but this one in MacBookit literally got to me. It takes a while to get used to the specific layout (especially after switching from a full-size keyboard), but it's nothing major. Once you get used to the keyboard, typing on it is simply great. The keys have a very short travel, which is accompanied by a fairly noticeable response, both tactile and audible. So it's not the quietest laptop keyboard on the market (in fact, it's quite loud typing - compared to conventional membrane low-profile keys), but in terms of response, it's absolutely great. I have a mechanical keyboard with non-linear Cherry MX Blue switches on my computer, so I'm used to feedback when typing and I look for it. Keyboard in MacBooku Pro gives me this feedback in abundance. It's really good.

touch Bar

The keyboard also includes the most talked-about new feature of this model – the Touch Bar. This will be a bit more difficult to evaluate, as it is a feature that suits everyone differently. During normal use (internet, emails, chat, Facebook, office etc.) the Touch Bar doesn't offer that much. Yes, emoticons are easy to select when writing messages, tagging emails is quite convenient, and some built-in functions in MS Office are also pleasant. However, everyone will use the Touch Bar as such differently and in their own way. The question is how professionals who have experienced a specific workflow and are used to specific keyboard shortcuts via function keys (for example, in Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro) approach this control element. The evaluation of the Touch Bar is therefore very individual. If you use it and know how to customize it, you will be thrilled with it. If it is somehow stolen from you, you will use it for something here and there, but it will definitely not be WHAT the new one does MacBook Pro that great machine. But to be not just negative, the implementation Touch ID to the power button is great. What you love on your iPhone/iPad, now you have it on your computer. Whether it's paying in App Store, user verification or switching local accounts, everything works perfectly.

I / O

One, two, three and four USB-C (Thunderbolt 3) ports. And a combined 3,5mm jack konewhich. That's all. Regardingonektivity has also been written a ton. Users of similar laptops simply have to get used to the fact that they will be carrying some kind of "dongle" with their computer (see for example Razer Stealth, HP Spectre, etc.). Again, we come to the fact that each user requires different needs. For some, there will be 4 USB-C porty few, someone can get by with one. A great addition for new MacBooky are new 4K and 5K monitors that serve as both charging stations and a kind of dockPersonally, I would be fine with two ports, but this is an area that everyone has to evaluate for themselves. Thunderbolt 3 itself isonewhich is great and has a very promising future. In this case AppThere is not much to criticize. Combined audio jack is also the norm in such laptops. I would accept the absence of USB type A (the adapter still costs about 250 crowns). The only thing that bothers me in MacBookWhat's missing is an SD card reader. I can't believe there wouldn't be some space inside for at least a microSD card reader. In terms ofoneFor me, this is the only major shortcoming that bothers me and will always bother me.

Trackpad

There's not much to cover in this chapter. Laptops from Applu have traditionally great trackpadyes the latest MacBook Pro is no exception. This time it is trackpad significantly larger than usual, the haptic feedback is great, the accuracy is excellent and the gestures are excellent. As a user who is used to laptops with Windows, is for me trackpad on the new MacBooku Pro is one of the most positively rated aspects. It is really great and the work on Windows it is now an even greater suffering than it was before.

Battery life

We also wrote a lot about batteries. Apple has even decided to remove the remaining battery life calculation from macOS. Some users complain about the battery life being around 5 hours, but I can't agree with that. In my case, the new one lasts MacBook Pro all day without having to pull out the charging cable. Yes, it is mostly kancelectronic work, i.e. emails, office, website, YouTube, some Facebook etc., but all-day endurance is the main thing in this case. In the case when you give MacBookIf you really put it in your body, the endurance will logically be lower. However, in this case I do not have relevant data available, so I cannot judge. From a user point of view, however, all-day endurance is an everyday reality for me.

And more…

We get to things that probably don't deserve a separate paragraph because of their scope, so we'll go through them together. Let's start with the speakers, for example. These are really good, and I mean really, really good. If we take into account the fact that it is located in the tiny body of a compact notebook, it offers a surprisingly powerful and legible sound performance. The bass is decently strong and does not overshadow the rest of the production. In this area you Apple also deserves praise.

The integrated camera is terrible, there is simply nothing else to add. In a laptop that costs over 60 thousand crowns, the camera should be of a completely different level. Unfortunately, in this case it is a tragedy.

In the case of performance evaluation MacBookI will refer you directly to other reviews that contain specific real-world tests. I don't have any. New MacBook It is clearly powerful enough for everything related to normal computer use (including light photo and video editing). It will not have a problem with anything like that, the cooling is well dimensioned and there is no risk of throttling during normal use.

I'd stick with cooling for a moment - if you only do light day-to-day work on a Mac, you don't know about cooling at all. Up to a certain temperature limit, everything goes passively, so nothing disturbs you. The fan only starts to rotate after a longer period of use, in my case after about 20 seconds of running Cinebench. Higher temperatures are mainly reflected in the lower part of the chassis, but this is nothing that would reduce comfort during use.

Problems

If you thought it was going to be all positive, sunny and problem-free, you were wrong, although no major problems have occurred in 3 months of use. Actually, there was only one… and a bit. The first problem was causing the Caps Lock to shuffle after waking up from sleep. I.e. the keyboard diode showed that it was off, but it was on. This problem was somehow mysteriously solved by turning off the built-in disk encryption (File Vault). After disabling encryption, the problem disappeared. According to queries on Google, this is a long-standing bug that Apple obviously does not solve.

Another (potential) problem is the keyboard. As great as it is, it has one major flaw. Due to the low key travel, it is very susceptible to any mess that might get under the keys. So if you like to eat at your computer, you better deal with it in case MacBookstop, because it can very easily happen that a crumb gets stuck under the key, which can then start to get stuck. The entire keyboard bed is quite fragile and if you force the crumb, thinking that you will really squeeze the key and "it will work somehow", you can end up very unhappy with a broken keyboard... If you are careful when eating, you have no problem and you can continue to have breakfast/lunch/dinner on your Mac :) Personally, I did not have such a serious problem, in my case it was a really minia temporary piece of something, so the key got stuck once. All you had to do was tap it and the something was gone.

Apart from these two problems mentioned, nothing major has emerged in the first 3 months. So far, everything is in perfect order and the new MacBook Pro It just makes me happy. If you have any questions, write to the discussion, I will be happy to answer you.
