Problems with vibrations not working can be caused by several things, starting with a bad setting and ending with a broken vibration motor or taptic engine. If you're experiencing vibration issues, try these tips to fix them.
Bad setting
One of the main reasons why someone may be annoyed by a malfunctioning vibration is the wrong setting of the device. In the settings, vibrations can of course be turned off completely. Therefore, it is not out of the question to check whether the switches are on.
- Open Settings.
- Go to the Sound section.
- Right at the top of the section is the vibration setting. Check that the switches are Vibration when ringing a Vibration in silent mode in the on position.
Reset settings
If the switches were active in the previous step and vibration still does not work, the next least harmful step is to reset the settings. The downside is that you will have to set up your device again after the restore. Fortunately, this is just a setup and you won't lose any content from your iPhone.
- Open Settings.
- Go to the General section.
- Scroll down and click the Refresh button.
- Now choose Reset all settings and confirm the choice.
After the reset, try to see if your device vibrates.
Restore device
If none of the previous methods worked and you really miss the vibration, all you have to do is reset the entire device.
- Using iTunes or iCloudPlease back up your device.
- Connect your device to your computer.
- Launch iTunes.
- Go to the device overview page.
- Click on the recovery button and follow the given steps.
After recovery check again if your device vibrates. If not, you can upload the device backup you made before the process without losing any data.
If that doesn't help either...store device, the hardware is almost certainly to blame. In this case, there is no other option but to file a complaint with the device. However, it is a good idea to first make sure that the vibration motor is really broken. You can check this by, for example, sliding the switch on the side of your device back and forth with the Vibration in Silent mode switch on. If it still does not vibrate, the vibration motor is broken.
Twl, that's an off the cuff article. If it's not SW, it's HW, remarkable :D
The article is quite fitting. I'm not applist, so I may be talking out of my ass, but it wouldn't be wise to do the last "test" right at the beginning and possibly avoid the restore I understand? :-D
Na iPhone7, it happens to me that the taptic engine stops responding every now and then, e.g. when scrolling the time on the alarm clock and similar controls, when pressing the keyboard to move the cursor. The only thing I've found that helps is to restart the device.
I have been dealing with the same problem lately. My phone wasn't vibrating and I didn't know why. When I searched in the "vibration" settings I came across only two options and they are described in the article. The first is in “Sounds and Haptics” and the second is in Accessibility – Touch”. I had both enabled, so I thought it might just be HW. Unfortunately, there is one more place (actually several) where the vibrations can be turned on/off and that is in the ringtone selection itself. When it comes to ringtones, notifications, etc., you can also choose the type of vibration when choosing melodies. And wonder, you can also choose "none". And that was my case. After selecting any vibration, the phone vibrated normally. And it won't reboot the settings right away, or even the whole phone. :-)
