Wireless headphones AirPods though they are not that much of a boom, as their manufacturer probably anticipated, but they have huge potential. Company Apple wants to be a step ahead of the competition, and is therefore already thinking about more advanced features of the headphones. US Patent & Trademark Office published three patents that suggest the headphones will have fitness and biometric features.

The Cupertino company has already filed a patent application for biometric features that are expected to appear in the future iPhone 8. The patent, which relates to the headphones, shows how a PPG sensor could be added to the headphones to reach the part of the ear called the tragus ( cartilage at the entrance to the ear canal). Thanks to this, the PPG sensor would be able to track biometric data. He uses a similar technique Apple at theirs Apple Watch.

The problem is that, in most cases, the outer surface of the headphones does not have enough contact with the part of the ear called the tragus, so they cannot get accurate biometric information. Apple he is a detailer, so he works to overcome these limitations. The patent states that the PPG is placed right next to the speaker so that the sensor makes contact with the part of the tragus, which is located at the beginning of the ear canal. The headphones could thus measure heart rate, skin galvanization, EKG, impedance cardiography and temperature.

Apple it also states that the three microphones could be arranged in a triangular shape to improve sound and cancel noise.

These patents do not mean that the feature will appear in the next generation, but rather represent a glimpse of the potential of the device.
