If after reading the title you thought we were repeating ourselves and you read the same review the week before last, that's not the case. The weekend before last, we tested its bigger sibling in the form of the Onyx speaker. Studio 3. It was a larger speaker, which surprised us a lot. However, not everyone has enough space (and financí) to place such a large piece of hardware somewhere on a shelf or table at home. The Onyx speaker tested today could be for them. Mini, which is roughly half as much. But does that mean it plays half as badly?

As always, we'll start today with a look at the official product specifications. This time, the sound is handled by a pair of 45mm drive2x8W speakers with a frequency range of 75Hz-20kHz. They are powered by a 3000mAh battery, which should last for about 10 hours of listening - depending on the volume and type of media being played. Three hours are needed to fully charge the battery. Like the last one, the transmission is either via Bluetooth 4.1 or there is a classic 3,5mm jack on the back.onewhich is connected to the source. The speaker weighs 587 grams and the dimensions of the main "plate" are approximately 15x16cm. This makes it a very compact piece of hardware. Let's now take a look at the packaging that Onyx comes in. Mini gets his hands on it. At this moment the first surprise occurred, because compared to the Onyx tested the week before last (and significantly more expensive) Studio 3), is the packaging of Onyx Mini much better. The main compartment contains the carefully stored and packaged speaker, and the side compartment contains all the accessories. Along with the speaker, the box also contains a microUSB-USB type A power cable, a wall adapter and two wall adapters (EU and USA). Of course, there is also some documentation. As always, you will now find all the important attributes that Onyx Mini So I have no complaints about the packaging.
Execution
Here, apart from the size, not much has changed since last week. The speaker is designed in the same style as its larger sibling. The only difference is the differently designed stand. While the larger Onyx Studio 3, two feet on the back ensured the stand, Onyx Mini has one large kickstand. Otherwise, everything is the same. From the design, to the materials used, the same button layout and the same bass output on the back. The position of the notification LEDs and microphone is also the same. The microUSB port used for updating the firmware, which is found in the larger version, has disappeared from the rear I/O. The design was not much to criticize the week before last and it is the same today. The only thing that could be mentioned is that, thanks to its smaller size, the Onyx does not look Mini as impressive as its bigger sibling. But that's more of a subjective impression and personal preference. Again, you can easily use it as a PC speaker, which is basically not possible with the larger model.
Ergonomics
Not much has changed in this chapter either. The pairing process is still the same (and seamless), the buttons and their response are still excellent. The microphone is of good quality (and has ambient noise cancellation) and calls are not a problem. Just like the Onyx Studio 3 and Onyx Mini supports the Dual Sound function, thanks to which it is possible to pair two speakers and essentially create a 2.0 system. The second Onyx Mini unfortunately, I don't have it at hand, so I couldn't try this interesting thing. There were no problems during testing, I used the speaker as the main sound source for my computer for about a week. Thanks to its size, it fits perfectly on the table next to the monitor. Up to 3 devices can be connected to the speaker at the same time.
Audio presentation
Unfortunately, we are going to deviate from the last review here, because the tiny Onyx Mini definitely doesn't play as well as the big Onyx Studio 3. However, there is nothing wrong with that, considering the size and features of both models. Onyx plays to its size Mini very decent. The overall sound is a bit flatter and the two 45mm drivers don't get as much power out of them, but considering the focus of this particular model, it's perfectly fine. For PC sound, Onyx has Mini enough power, if you pair two models together, the result will be ideal. The speaker easily handles the sound of a normal room and the sound does not degenerate with increasing volume. When maxAt maximum volume, the midrange becomes dominant, but no one will likely use the speaker in this mode.

The perfect design is underlined by good sound performance and I can imagine a pair of speakers next to some nice designer monitor. Or as a dedicated speaker for your mobile phone. There will be many uses in practice, due to the more compact size there should be no problem with placement. The ten-hour battery life is also very decent, so even Onyx Mini can handle the soundtrack of a more decent party. The most important thing when deciding ononec will be the price. Onyx Mini costs five thousand crowns, but the Onyx tested the week before last Studio 3 is only a thousand crowns more. It's twice as big and plays really well. If you're looking for a compact Bluetooth speaker, the Onyx Mini is very capable. If space is not an issue, Onyx Studio 3 is definitely a better choice, definitely worth the extra thousand. costs new according to the updated Harman/Kardon price offer 3 999 CZK/149 €. At this price, it is a significantly more competitive product than the price at which it was operated at the time of writing the review.
