In October last year, Nintendo introduced its new Switch game console. It is a hybrid device that we have never had on the market before. Sometimes you have a game controller, sometimes a tablet, sometimes a handheld, and sometimes aoneor a real home console that you plug into your TV. Of course, the new console has also caught the attention of hackers who are trying to find vulnerabilities in game consoles. It certainly wouldn't be the first time that hackers have managed to jailbreak a game console, hackers have previously reset the PS3 or Nintendo Wii, for example.

The path to the locked files of the Nintendo Switch console is through a web browser that uses a leaky WebKit, which, for example, allowed jailbreaking on iOS 9.3.5. Nintendo probably knew about the possibility and tried to make the browser as secure as possible.

LiveOverflow reported that the device can only be hacked in the landing page that appears on airport hotspots or Starbucks hotspots. However, with a little patience, a hacker can try to get into the device through a proxy server on the local Wi-Fi network, where the hacker will then monitor all sent or received packets.

Apple patched the "leaky" WebKit on August 25, 2016, meaning Nintendo had roughly seven months to address the bug more. However, according to experts, the company took the WebKit bug lightly. At the same time, experts add that Nintendo will likely fix the bug in a future update – if the company doesn't, it's more than likely that we'll see a jailbreak in the future that would bring a lot of new features.

In the video below you can see a detailed analysis of the error in English.
