After possible plans to contract Yahoo for the US Secret Service were leaked, many existing clients may have changed their minds about which company they want to run their email account with. But it looks like the company is not going to make it any easier for those who want to leave Yahoo. According to the Associated Press, Yahoo wants to make it impossible to forward emails from its domain.

"Automatic forwarding sends a copy of incoming messages from one account to another," says the help-page Yahoo. This feature is currently under development. While we work on improving it, we have temporarily disabled the ability to forward messages to a new address. If you have previously enabled forwarding, it will not be suspended on your account.” Below the message, users can check whether they have forwarding set up or not. It is likely that this is not the case for most users.

According to the Associated Press, the timing of such maintenance for this feature and at this time is suspect, to say the least, despite the fact that forwarding is a feature that has been "a core concept of every email service provider for at least 15 years." TechCrunch reported that British Telecom customers not only can't set up forwarding for their emails, they can't even delete their accounts. They get an error message saying "the Delete feature is currently unavailable and will be available again at the end of September". Evidently, September 2017 is meant. Yahoo has not yet commented on the above complications.
