But if you are a little more experienced and you are interested in the signal strength in decibels, iPhone allows you to display it also in numbers. Moreover, this is just a hidden phone setting and you don't even need to have a jailbreak to activate it, so you can try it practically right now. And what is it about? Basically, you switch the phone to Field Test Mode, i.e. a mode that is mainly intended for technicians who need to test signal strength in the field.
How does it actually work? You can also temporarily display the signal strength in numbers, but in this tutorial we will mainly focus on how to have numbers instead of dots until you decide to turn it back.
- Open the Phone app and "call" the number * 3001 #12345 # *. The Field Test application will then open, obviously adapted for older devices.
- Don't turn it off! After turning it off, everything goes back to normal! Hold the Power Button until the option to turn off the phone appears on the screen
- Instead of turning it off, hold it Home Button for approximately 5 seconds to return the Field Test application to the home screen. At the same time, you will be left with numbers instead of dots.
If you want to change everything to normal, then just open the Field Test app again and turn it off via the home button. Interestingly, the highest signal hovers around -50 dB, while the lowest hovers around -113 dB.
