About two years ago I switched from Windows on Mac OS X. Of course I was thrilled with the fluidity and overall different experience. Above all, it was something new. But I also started looking for what I could do on Mac OS Windows miss. There wasn't much, but I missed the familiar pinning of windows to the sides, when the windows are spread exactly on the middle of the screen when you throw them to the right or left side, or the easy throwing of the window to the top of the screen, when it spreads again to the entire screen . Some users would ignore such a thing with a wave of their hand, but I started looking for an application that would replace this for me.

Of course I immediately headed to App Store, where after a while I found a handy application Magnet (then Window Magnet), which met my requirements. After a while I also found out that it was an application from a Czech developer. That probably pushed me the most to buy it for €1,79. And it was even my first and so far last purchase of an application in App Store. Unfortunately, during that time, the functionality of the application has not changed much and it still does the same thing, it just has a more modern design and a few minor bugs have been fixed. The only thing that has changed fundamentally is the price, from the original €1,79 to the current €4,99. However, once every six months, for a while, its price drops back to the original price and at that time the purchase is worth it.

The application itself is quite simple. Immediately after launch, a window will pop up with instructions on how to proceed to gain access to do what it is designed to do. Next, images will appear showing where you can pin windows and that shortcuts for individual actions can be set in the application. At the bottom, it is advisable to check the box so that the application starts when the system starts.

The window itself can be snapped to the right and left sides, so it will always be spread out over the corresponding half of the screen. The window can also be snapped to all corners, spreading it over a quarter of the screen. The last option is to snap the window to the top of the screen, where the window will be maxIt will fit exactly on the entire screen. If you have dock is still displayed, the application takes this into account, so it never hides the window behind dock. All these actions can also be achieved using keyboard shortcuts, which can be set in the application settings themselves, which can be accessed by clicking on the magnet application icon in the top menu bar. Here you can also set ignoring for individual applications, which of course means that Magnet will not work at all in the selected application.

Magnet is perhaps the only application without which I could not imagine working on a Mac. I just can't unlearn the old habit of pinning windows, and it often helps me organize the windows I need for work. There are many applications for similar window pinning, such as BetterTouchTool, which is also free. But probably because it interferes too much with the system Apple do Mac App Store didn't let go and that's why Magnet is a handy replacement. Moreover, it does everything as it should and does it elegantly, simply and without any unnecessary extras
