When we already said jhow to take care of a smartphoneone or tablet in extreme heat, of course we have to think about our laptops and computers, and it is for them that there is an article that will help your machine survive the extreme temperatures that will occur over the entire territory of Central Europe for the next two weeks.
First, let's take a look at the basic advice on how to take care of your computer in extreme temperatures, which are currently occurring in our territory and will not subside until some Friday. The most important thing is to always place the computer as far as possible from another heat source. So, for example, if you have an iMac on your desk and a PS4 next to it, it's not an ideal combination. Try to allow the computer as much air circulation as possible, and cool air, so do not expose it to other sources of heat.
In the case of portable computers, try not to leave the computer in direct sunlight or, for example, in a car, and observe the same rules with it as apply to a dog or a child when traveling and exposed to the sun. Try to protect the display in particular, which is at risk of yellowing when used for a long time in the sun, the claim for which may not be recognized.
Clean the fans
It is advisable to clean the computer fans at least once a year, if you own a dog or a cat, this rule applies doubly, as well as if there is smoking near the computer. Of course, we recommend the following procedure for experienced users, on the other hand, unscrewing only the bottom part of the computer and screwing it back can be done by anyone. However, I do not recommend this procedure for users MacBook Air. The following procedure does not void your warranty in any way, since by unscrewing the bottom aluminum plate of the computer you gain access to the RAM and hard drive, which are user-replaceable parts, the replacement of which is also described in the computer user manual, among other things. MacBook a MacBook Pro.
Computers MacBook can be taken apart quite easily, just unscrew the screws at the bottom of the computer and remove the aluminum cover. You don't have to disassemble anything other than the cover and I also strongly warn against trying to disassemble any other parts of the computer than the main cover. For cleaning, I found it most effective to use a cosmetic stick moistened with alcohol. You need to proceed carefully and only touch the plastic part of the fan. Never try to remove dust by force or, for example, to lux. Proceed gently and with sensitivity. Although the alcohol evaporates relatively quickly, do not rush to assemble and let the fans dry before putting the cover back on. MacBooku back. Always use only a slightly damp brush or cloth. You can of course also clean other dusty plastic parts of the computer and the aluminum cover itself, which you removed from the computer. Of course, you can also use compressed air in a spray. You can see the computer cleaning process in the following video from the production Letem svetem Applem, which is focused on replacing the RAM, but we also clean the computer itself MacBook ProDetailed information on how to clean fans on individual computers Apple can be found in the article: Tutorial: Summer is coming, let's clean our Macs and let them breathe freelychat
Turn off background apps
It often happens that a process or application is running in the background of the operating system that you are not currently using at all. Personally, I have had this happen to me several times. Quick Look or a quick preview in the background caused the processor to load so much that the fans on the maximal performance. Using Activity Monitor (AppApplications – Utilities – Activity Monitor) you can easily find out which applications or processes are using the most CPU or RAM. You can then close these processes and applications directly from Activity Monitor.
A suitable table
If you are buying a new table that should primarily serve as a base for MacBook, it is worth choosing the right material. Each material has its own thermal conductivity. It is best to look at high school or university physics tables, where you can find the thermal conductivity of individual materials. Of course, the higher the conductivity, the better, because the heat from the body MacBooku is conducted to the substrate. If the material has low thermal conductivity, the heat remains on the chassis MacBookua is not removed. A suitable table can often be replaced by special cooling pads MacBooks, which we will talk more about below. Of course, the surface finish of the material also matters and it is best to try everything out beforehand. Interesting tables, made specifically for MacBookYou can find iMacs here.
Passive pads
Passive pads are divided into two types. The first type has a single task, to place MacBook so that it can cool itself as best as possible. This means that in most cases the computer is raised above the table surface, which allows cool air to surround the computer from all angles. These pads are either made of heat-conducting materials or have theminia more minimalist design, thanks to which the computer is held in the air at only three/four points and its bottom is free above the table surface. Passive pads are usually especially in the case of accessories for Apple computers a stylish matter and can become not only an imaginative, but especially a useful addition to your desk. Among the most famous passive pads for MacBook belongs iCurve a xStand. The second type of passive pads is passive only in that it does not require any power supply. The principle of this cooling is not so passive, these are pads that are usually covered with a casing similar to a sheet of paper and filled with a substance, in the vast majority of cases that substance is sodium sulfate decahydrate. It absorbs heat well and distributes it over a larger area. The advantage here is clear, zero noise and zero consumption at the same time. Of course, it is necessary to take into account the lower cooling performance than when using an active pad. However, this is cooling that is more effective than conventional passive pads. However, the temperature change is not that significant in any of the above passive pad solutions and usually ranges between 3-6C. However, most of these pads are mainly of a design nature, while they can maintain MacBook in the desired position, which is usually more comfortable than laying it on a table. However, if you follow the above rules, passive pads will suffice without any problems and 6C can be what separates your fans from silent operation. An interesting option is to use, for example, Cool Ball, a very cheap and yet effective pad. We reviewed them right here. However, a short excerpt is enough to get an idea of the effectiveness of even a completely cheap cooling: "If the reviews are so good, why not use a thermometer certified by the Czech Meteorological Institute. The ambient temperature ranged from 20,3 degrees Celsius to 20,7 degrees Celsius. MacBook Pro Unibody 15″ 2,4GHz, 4GB RAM, reached a core temperature of 55 degrees Celsius without using any cooling. Once I added the Cool Ball, the temperature dropped to 49 – 50 degrees Celsius on the core in a short time. At that time, the Mail applications were running, Finder, Skype (with a call in progress), Firefox and TextEdit.” Of course, you can support the bottom of the computer with anything you can think of. This will increase the air circulation under the computer and thus improve its cooling.
Active pads
Active pads depend on electrical power, which they obtain 99,9% of the time from the USB port itself. MacBooku. Since it is MacBook equipped with only a pair of USB ports, most users also use a USB hub with the pad, but there are also pads that serve as a hub themselves. An active pad uses a fan to suck in air, which is cooled by the flow and then hits the bottom of the computer. Aluminum dissipating heat from the internal componentsoneThe computer cools down and its heat-conducting effects increase by up to two times. We tested several pads in the editorial office and none of them had a problem reducing the computer temperature by almost half. For example, Belkin Laptop Cooling, whose review we you can read here, was able to reduce the CPU temperature from 90C to 47C within minutes. If you play games, render video or do any work during which the computer heats up to more than 90C, we recommend using an active pad.
