Analytical company Canalys conducted a market survey again and compared the results for the last quarter with the same quarter last year. In the second quarter of 2015, Apple moved to second place in the market share of personal computers immediately behind Lenovo, which thus becomes the largest supplier of personal computers and especially notebooks for the time being. The statistics add together the delivered pieces of personal computers, laptops and tablets.
Lenovo shipped just under 16 million PCs and tablets, 240 more than Apple and thus becomes the largest supplier with a market share of 15%. Overall, the market for computers and tablets fell by 12% to 109,2 million. Apple it is close on Lenovo's heels, followed closely by HP and, with a smaller share, Dell. Rounding out the top five is Samsung, whose share fell significantly over the last quarter, mainly due to the weak tablet market and the reduction of notebook production.
Lenovo took over in the last quarter Applu privileged position in the market, but Apple is still number one in its country, i.e. in the United States, where it holds the crown mainly thanks to the tablet market, in which it clearly dominates and which accounted for 70% of its total share. In contrast, Lenovo is the largest computer manufacturer in its home country of China with 30%, and its share is similarly increasing in the US.
However, the difference is really only miniIt is also important to consider how vastly expanded the portfolio Lenovo has and how much less it offers Apple. The price is also important, as Lenovo also offers a lot of cheaper models, while Apple it's heading into a completely different category. In the fall of this year, it is expected that Apple will introduce a new 4k Retina iMac, which could have a positive impact on the share again. We should also expect new MacbookFor and Air with Intel processors, which should already offer the Skylake architecture, which is supposed to be significantly better than its predecessor.
