Adobe isn't the only company that has caught on to the news that Aperture and iPhoto are being discontinued. Adobe announced its plans shortly after how Apple has provided an official statement to foreign media regarding the future of Aperture, and now Corel has joined him. Rival Adobe has announced that current users of Aperture and Adobe Lightroom can switch to AfterShot Pro 2 for just $59.99, a $20 difference over the traditional version.
At the same time, Corel adds that this is only a temporary offer, which is related to the recent release of the AfterShot program Pro 2, which went on sale last month. The company also adds that it will try to find other ways to help Aperture users switch to AfterShot in the future Pro 2. Program does not yet support OS X Yosemite, but users can switch to AfterShot now, as the program now has built-in support for the Aperture-style file system, which is its main advantage over Adobe Lightroom.
I've always liked Corel, unlike Adobe. Unfortunately, retina can't do it :( Otherwise, it's nice that you can also choose OpenCL support and the number of cores in the settings. Maybe they will complete retina support by autumn.
Before Aperture, I used Bibble = the original product bought by Corel, on which they built AfterShot. At that time, DAM functions were not fully developed, it crashed occasionally, but it worked on all three major OSes, it had amazing functions, a strong plugin developer community, and it was well established. I didn't try AfterShot then. In any case, if one of the competing products offers a significantly better import of libraries from Aperture, it wins for me. Even if I had to install KDE for that :)
