Samsung had a huge outage of software services for its smartphones, tablets, Smart TVs and even an outage of its worldwide website. As Engadget.com reports, the cause of this outage is the burning of a data center in the South Korean city of Gwacheon.
According to the available information, we know that the fire started to spread from the 4th floor of the data center and was completely extinguished only after seven hours. It is further reported that no lives were lost in the fire, but several people were injured during the evacuation. Smart TV owners encountered a crash with third-party applications, when the Smart TV could not download the XML files needed to list individual services. Their owners thus lost access to applications such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube or Spotify.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, but Samsung assures its customers that no data or confidential information was leaked. Operations have finally been restored, but users may still experience outages in some applications.
I hope Tim at least took a mask :-)
