Broadcom presented the new SoC chip BCM4354 for smartphones at MWC. According to him, this is a chip that brings the new WiFi standard 802.11ac to mobile phones and enriches it with MIMO support, which speeds up data transmission even more. This is the first 2×2 MIMO chip for smartphones, while 1×1 MIMO chips were currently used. Broadcom states in its press release that thanks to the use of the latest technologies, the chip is able to offer up to a two-fold increase in speed and is 25% more economical compared to the previous generation.

The chip is therefore able to offer a data transfer speed of 867 Mbps, i.e. almost 110MB/s. At the same time, the chips use the same technology that we can already encounter with the iPad today Air or iPad mini s Retina display. However, they do not support the 802.11ac standard, so it is clear that this chip will only appear in this year's generation iOS devices. The announcement of this chip came just a few hours after the first device that could use it appeared at MWC. He is the new one Samsung Galaxy S5, which supports the aforementioned 802.11ac MIMO technology.
