The world of today's headphones is no longer only about mass-marketed headphones from world-famous companies, but also about companies that can be considered unique in this field. This is exactly the case with more affordable headphones from the family of the legendary Jamaican singer Bob Marley. As I write these words, I'm looking at the Marley Freedom Collection headphones, specifically the model Redemption Song IE Mist, named after one of the most popular songs from the King of Reggae.
Design
At a time when headphones are mainly made of plastic material, The House of Marley comes with a truly unique product. At first glance, you will notice that something is not right, especially when you look at the cable of these headphones. Unlike 99% of all headphones in the world, in this case the cables are not hidden in rubber, at least not in a visible one. The cables are hidden in a beautiful textile body. From the combination of colors it is clear that the creators remain loyal to Reggae and therefore we will meet a typical Rastafarian tricolor, bordered by black. The House of Marley points out that these headphones are really environmentally friendly and therefore will not have a big impact on the environment. This claim is confirmed by the fact that the headphones are packed in a cardboard box.
On the back of the headphones we find light brown wood, which you can see for yourself at the first touch. Yes, it really is wood. Looking at the control panel and then touching it, one thinks that it is a computeronent made of thin plastic. Badly. The control panel is actually composed of recycled aluminum, thus the company continues to stick to making environmentally friendly headphones. The aluminum is really thin and you can already hear that there is a larger amount of air inside the controller when you lightly tap the material. However, even the smallest details are thought of, which is why this controller also includes a hole for a microphone on the bottom, which makes it possible to use the phone hands-free. In koneall in all, these are very interesting headphones with a truly unique design. In the product package, we also find five pairs of attachments, adapted for each ear. This will be especially appreciated by people who have a problem with putting headphones in their ears. Inside we find two pairs of double silicone tips that can be pushed deeper into the ear.
The company also makes the headphones a very natural protective case. By the term "very natural", I mean a combination of leather and textile. In my opinion, this type of pocket is quite interesting, as it does not contain any magnets or a zipper. Instead, we'll go back to the classic pocket closure style. Sir Jonathan Ive would certainly not be very happy in the case of these headphones, as he is a kind of opponent of skeuomorphism in design. The pocket therefore acts as part of the garment and I think the same about the headphones, from a design point of view.
Sound
The sound side of headphones is of course an integral part of every headphone and because sa The House of Marley decided to make nice headphones, it doesn't mean that they have to provide quality sound. However, I think the audio criticism belongs more to the recently reviewed Harman Kardon NI than to the Marley Redemption Song IE Mist. The sound of the Marley headphones is very pleasant, but until the moment you decide to start the music on maximal volume. In this case, you can tell that the headphones will emphasize the height, which will deprive you of a pleasant experience of listening to music. In terms of bass, these are not very strong headphones, so if you considered that you will mainly listen to Drum & Bass, these headphones will not be very suitable for you, unless you set an equalizer.
The bass, like the volume, is somewhat weaker in this case than the EarPods from Apple, it is therefore obvious that these are headphones intended primarily for listening to classical music or that Marley genre, Reggae. If you decide Mronehut volume at the right level, which represents 60 to 70%, a pleasant atmosphere is taken care of. Our music test took place under the same conditions as with all previous headphones, but the 7th generation iPod nano also added iPhone. The content and settings remained the same for both devices, we listened to music purchased from iTunes Store, with the equalizer turned off.
Summary
There are probably only a small number of headphones in the world that can attract a person's attention. And when it comes to headphones, they have to be in something else. These are the headphones from the series Marley Redemption Song IE Mist, which add a sense of curiosity. In recent years, I have not even once seen headphones in a store, the body of which is composed of textile and wood in addition to the usual materials. And that is exactly the case with the headphones from the Marley Freedom Collection edition. A big advantage is the presence of five pairs of silicone attachments of different types and sizes, thanks to which even a problem ear can find the right attachment. At the same time, this is a big change compared to other headphones, with which we can find only 3 sizes of extensions these days.
From the point of view of the quality of the music being played, I could praise the pleasant reproduction, but I have to confirm that at high volumes there is an unpleasant noise caused by excessive treble emphasis. The second disadvantage may be weaker bass for a certain group of people. They are not the top of the line, but they are still very unique. The thing that definitely catches the eye is the price. The price of the product is set at €62,90 for the model with a microphone and only €53,90 for the model without a microphone. If you're also into charity, you'll be pleased to know that part of the profit from the sale will go to the 1Love Foundation, which was founded by Bob Marley's family. What is the goal of the foundation? Supporting youth, the planet and peace.
