We are already there. LSA informed, on the possibility of introducing Retina displays with a resolution of 2880×1800, which should appear in the next generation MacBookat Pro. Also, we posted an article, in which we are thinking about what the resolution will actually be good for, when there is currently no content that would use it.

The problem with content and applications that are adapted to today's products is supposed to be solved by "HiDPI mode". Evidence of the company's ongoing work Apple is located, in the latest beta version Mac OS X 10.7.3, where the "Open in HiDPI mode" option is added to the "Get Info" item. It follows that after choosing the mentioned option, the font and graphics resolution should be automatically doubled. However, this element was not functional yet.

After yesterday's release of developer build 11D36, this option has been completely removed from the "Get Info" item. It seems like a classic tactic Applu, that they activate in beta versions an important element, which they then deactivate in order to keep the final version secret. That's probably what the Cupertino engineers think Retina display really seriously. Anyway, whether they will actually make it to the market MacBook Pro with a resolution of 2880×1800, we will find out at the official release WWDC.
