OnLive gaming service presents cloudA new solution for playing video games. The service allows you to play the latest games on regular TVs, PCs and Macs, or now also on multimedia tablets, phonesonech and players. OnLive works on a very user-friendly, but technically quite demanding principle. The user only needs a device that allows streaming content from OnLive's servers to the device used by the user. In the case of computers or tablets/phones, the device can also be replaced by a simple application with the same function. The device on the user's side does not perform any calculations, but only streams or transfers data from the user to the OnLive servers and back. The servers automatically perform all calculations and send data back to the device or application on the user's side. To operate the service, you only need to have an internet connection with a speed of 1,4 Mb/s and a device to which OnLive can be connected or installed.
Today, OnLive launched the ability to connect to clients with the operating system iOS and Android. For now, the option, as with the entire service, only applies to users from the USA and Great Britain. The situation is exceptionally not due to copyright, but to the lack of servers of the company, which is currently just starting up. As soon as there are enough customers, and therefore enough financOnLive offers an app for iOS device that allows control via the device's touchscreen using the accelerometer and gyroscope. Alternatively, those interested can also purchase a special gamepad that allows you to control games, which is available for $49,99. There are currently 25 games available that have modified controls for the iPad and iPhone touchscreen.
The OnLive app is available for free on iTunes App StoreHowever, users must pay for individual game titles or purchase what is known as PlayPack OnLive Bundle, which is a package in which all OnLive games are available for a certain period of time. Games can be played under one account on all devices you connect to, with the automatic continuation of the game where you left off. For example, if you are playing on a TV and turn off OnLive, just connect under the same account on an iPad and you can continue playing at the same moment you turned off the TV. Users who connect to OnLive now will receive a free game LEGO Batman ™: The Videogame.
What is OnLive really like?
The owner of one of our partners and a friend of mine had the opportunity to play OnLive while visiting the US and described the service as follows: “There is really no problem with the Internet speed, just a normal connection. However, games don't run as smoothly as you're used to from PCs and consoles. However, they hack differently than if you don't have a powerful enough computer for the game. The graphics are also not at the highest level, but rather set to an average display. The most interesting thing is really the ability to play on any computer or TV, but if you are a fan and you are looking for the best graphics settings with the best sound settings, OnLive cannot satisfy you.”
Why when visiting the USA? After all, you can play on PC/Mac even in Europe or rather anywhere.
Hold on to your hats, the future is coming!
I don't know why, but it just seems off to me. ios devices doesn't work - after registration only win, mac or android. I didn't even find the application. Just for completeness, I'm in the UK. Am I doing something wrong?
