Until recently, Redsn0w only jailbroken old 1st and 2nd generation iPhones and iPods, but now it can jailbreak all devices from Applu running on iOS 4.2.1. If Geohot hadn't released LimeRa1n, this jailbreak wouldn't be available today, the new unlock wouldn't be available, and I wouldn't be writing this guide. The new version of Redsn0w uses the same hole that LimeRa1n uses, but since LimeRa1n itself is a tethred jailbreak, you have to boot into Redsn0w every time you restart your iPhone, but only on iPhoneand iPods with new boot-rom (3rd and 4th generation) + iPad.
1.Step: Install on your iPhone iOS 4.2.1 to activate it using the sim card that your iPhone blocked.
2.Step: Download from This stránky iOS 4.2.1 for your device.
3. Step: Download and then open redsn0w 0.9.6b5 pros Mac or Windows.
4. Step: Click on "Browse", find the .ISPW file from step 2, click "Open” and click on “Next".
5. Step: On your iPhone, go to "Settings"->"General"->"Information"->"Modem Firmware". If you do not have the Modem Firmware 06.15.00, so proceed to step 6, otherwise skip it.
6. Step: Tick it "Install Cydia","Install iPad Baseband" and click on "Next".
7. Step: Turn off your iPhone and follow the instructions below to give your iPhone into DFU mode.
Press on 3 seconds nand iPhone Power button (hold the top button on 10 seconds on iPhone top and bottom buttons
8. Step: Now just hold the button "Home" until iPhone will not connect to Mac/PC.
9. Step: Open it Cydia and wait until all the data is loaded.
10. Step: go to "Manage"->"Sources" and check if you have a line here with the name repo666.ultrasn0w.cpm, if not continue to step 11, otherwise skip it.
11. Step: Click on "Edit” then on "Add" and write here http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com and click on "Add Source".
12. Step: Go to "Search", find the item "Ultra"sn0w" and click it.
13. Step: In the top right corner, click on "Install" and then in that same place on "Confirm".
14. Step: Don't leave iPhoneto download and install all necessary files and restart when prompted iPhone.
15. Step: Take the Sim card you want to use on the iPhone and put it in the iPhone. Now just wait until the name of the operator appears in the status bar on the iPhone and everything is done.
Note: If you restart your iPhone, it won't boot and you have to turn on Redsn0w, click Browse, find the Firmware from step 2, and check Just boot tethred right now and continue.

For many users, the tethered jailbreak and the need to troubleshoot something after every reboot will be a problem. A better combination is to stick with IOS 4.1 and only upgrade the baseband for SIM unlocking.

I would also add that it also works on version 4.1 and you don't have to upgrade to 4.2.1, you just need to download it ios4.1, it's better in that anyone who has jailbroken 4.1 has a tethered jail and on 4.2.1 it's untethered, meaning that after turning off the phone you will need to jailbreak again with Redsnow.

I know the difference between DFU and recovery, even tinyumbrella didn't help...but in the end I solved it differently...it required a downgrade to version 3.1.2, but otherwise absolute satisfaction, it goes faster...

If I understood it correctly, I have an iPhone on AT A operator, that means if I want to unlock the iPhone on O2, then if I don't have a SIM card from AT T, I won't be able to follow your instructions...or just put the O2 Card in the phone.

I have win7 pro on my pc. Iphone bought in the Czech Republic. When I try to jailbreak it again, it still gives me the same offer as I wrote here drive, so I just type install cydia, I transfer the phone to dfu, and then redsn0w gave me some message, which said something about using limera1n, and the whole process stops, the phone boots up normally and no jailbreak, no cydia. :-( , I tried it on another PC, but it was the same. Hello, very nicely written. May I ask if it is possible to bypass activation using the original SIM using this procedure? ( I have Iphone 3gs with 4.1 Fw and baseband 5.14.02, original activation card did not work, universal activation card also did not work)
1) Jailbreak to 4.1 – this will activate tphone (done using Limera in).
2) Next, follow the procedure described above, with the fact that I am not updating the OS to 4.2, but only the baseband.
That would keep me on 4.1 and split the phone.

The instructions are great, basically there would be no problem, but I searched on the dev-team website and there I found that there is a risk of losing GPS, and that the battery is very low. I did the jailbreak in the morning, I left the phone on the table and in the evening it didn't turn on anymore.. I started it via the computer, which I consider an incredible complication and it didn't turn on again.. I haven't put the modem firmware on 06.15.00 yet because it can't be reverted, so I'm afraid of that. My version is 05.15.04 and that helps ultrasnow can't be unlocked.. I have a phone from the UK and basically I have a feeling that it will be like that. Does anyone have experience with the transition to 06.15.00? Hi. I would like to advise W7 users to definitely put it in WINXP compatibility mode when using "redsn0w"!! I just managed to jailbreak and unlock IPhone 3G from the USA and I was a complete LAMA this morning…. :-). This guide is great and I managed to do it according to it. It is unbelievable how many “Smart People” comment on JB and how little “smart” there is in it. Thank you to the authors of this guide!!

Hey guys, I'm crazy! My phone was blocked on T-mobile.sk and I needed to use it on the O2.sk network. I did the whole process exactly as mentioned above and the result is as follows - good management - the phone signed up to the new network without problems and calling is OK. Bad management - Wifi or mobile data network does not work. It is only in the O2.sk network EDGE, the network is detected by the letter "E" next to the description of the operator in the upper left corner, but it is not possible to connect to the real network. You must download at least one free application (e.g. Skype) via Installous. Then you can sync with iTunes.
